Wedding
Day
The wedding is always the most
significant day in the life of a woman especially. Till the middle of the 1800s
all the brides use to wear the dress which was the best one in their wardrobe on
their wedding day. The ones who were able to afford the expensive clothes
bought them had them made by themselves. The dresses were always bought with
this thing in mind that it will be worn in the future too. The colors which
were worn included a huge range but the color blue was the favorite choice of
the majority. After the marriage of the Queen Victoria to her cousin in 1840,
her detailed and expensive white bridal dress set a new standard in the color
selection for bridal wear.
White
Wedding dress
Amongst the color wedding dresses,
the white colored attire were initially not thought of as a symbol of purity
and innocence of childhood. It rather showed the woman’s social status as to those
who could afford to wear a white apparel and which would be worn only once in
her life like Queen Victoria. However, with the passage of time this color was
associated with virtue and wearing it made the bride virtuous. In the next few
years, there has been a rapid increase in the brides opting for a white wedding
dress which could easily be now bought at less price range. At the time of
depression white attire was bought and later it was dyed and used again. During
the world war two, the white dresses were also rented and borrowed.
Change
in the tradition
There have been a number of cultural
shifts afterwards in the terms of individuality particularly at the time of
transition in the second half of century. The choice of Princess Diana in
Europe wearing an ivory dress for her wedding led to the drastic breaking of a
long tradition. Women started choosing color wedding dresses
for themselves. In the modern times there are a number of options for a bride
to choose the right color for her wedding dress. This depends on the location,
the weather conditions, the complexion of the bride and what suits her.
Choosing
the right color
The criteria on the basis of which a
bride can choose the right color wedding dress
includes the fact that a color should be chosen which flatters the bride the
most. Such a color should be selected that will complement her skin, hair and
eyes so that she appears beautiful in her pictures. A bride can also select
from a colored dress or a white dress with colored accessories on it that will
give a different and complete look at the wedding. Most of the weddings that are held indoors
call for lighter and subtle color combinations of the dress. But for the
weddings outside like at beaches, bright and bold colors can be appropriate.
The season of the marriage is an important factor here too.
